The Galapagos, made of 18 islands and 107 rocks, are located in the eastern Pacific Ocean, at about 1000 km West from Ecuador’s coast.

The islands, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage, are known for their vast number of endemic species, which were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. His observations and collections contributed to the inception of Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.

During this short trip, I, too quickly, visited the Southern islands of Baltran (former WW-II US Airbase, now one of the 2 airports), Santa Cruz, Floreana, Española & San Cristobal.

Hummingbirds are among the smallest of birds, and include the smallest extant bird species, the Bee Hummingbirds. They can hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings 12–90 times per second (depending on the species). They fly at speeds exceeding 15 m/s (54 km/h) and are the only group of birds able fly backwards. No need to say that photographing them while flying is rather challenging, specially in low light conditions.
